Question advice for taking off top

I just recently bought a sweet 1990 Bronco, and I can't wait to get that top off. The problem is, i have no experience doing this, and being the 17 year old I am, i dont want to screw up and break something, because that takes $$.

If anyone has any helpful tips for the removal, storage, and putting it back on, that would be great.

Well the top is real heavy. You will need someone to help u lift it off. Unless you do it yourself by rigging something to support it which would be the height of your truck, then you could lift it with your back and slide it onto the thing but it depends if you have the right stuff around the house.

First you just unscrew the screws in the truck & remove the siding along the glass, then unscrew the bolts all around under the plastic and that is all thats holding the top on. Make sure u lay the top on maybe to pieces of wood, etc so you don't tear the rubber weatherstriping. You could spray the rubber with some silicon spray. Good luck with your bronco & welcome.

To add to what tigerhawk_212 said, there is also an alignment pin you have to watch out for, so you can't just slide the top back once the bolts are loose, you have to lift it up. Just be sure to be careful with the weatherstrip around the edges, you don't want to wreck it.

I rigged up a set of pulley's in my garage that are attatched to some 2x4 to the roof of my garage. I use 2 2x4's between the Bronco and the top, they are attached to the rope hanging from the pulley's overhead. I can lift the top off on my own without any help.

Let me know how it work's for you. all the material I used came from Menard's and I probably got less than 30 buck's in it. The front left and right rope's are hooked up together to lift just the front, the back two rope's are then tied together to lift the back. If you need more pic's shoot me a private message.

I want to make sure that all of the fasteners on my top are tight. I did the ones at the top front (near the dome lights) by taking off the trim. There were 5 or 6 there. Are there more somewhere under the top's side windows if I take that trim off? Last week I went around tightening all of the screws on my interior plastic. Luckily for me I have a pretty tight and quiet Bronc and now it is even quieter.

One more thing to remember is when the top is off, the pieces that the screws went into have the ability to get lost. They can slide out while taking the top off or just as you're driving around. Either tape them down or remove them and put them back when the top is ready to go back on. They can be taken out with a pair of needle nose pliers and slid toward the opening and then angled up to remove. Half of mine disappeared the first time 'cause I did not know this.

ojos, is that a request to me?

If so, look at the pic that is posted above. There are 2 pulley's at the front of the top and 2 at the back of the top, the 2x4 under the top is attatched to the rope, then the rope goes to the pulley above and then goes to the final pulley in the back, setup the same at the rear, at the very end there are 4 pulley's and the rope from the front of each side is tied together beyond the pulley, ditto with the back, then after pulling the rope it is tied off at my workbench.

blackandsilver did you ever get your's setup?

Ranger,
Yes, I thought you had more pictures.
So at the end, you have four ropes to tie together to a workbench?
