I am restoring my 1969 F100. I was trying to convert from the original manual steering to power steering. I have run into problems and have decided to go back to the original manual steering. Does anyone know where I might get a comprehensive, exploded, drawing of the steering column? I am particularly interested in how the bearings, bearing retainers, seals, etc. fit into the column. I have the Ford shop manual but find it a little skimpy on these details.
Hehe. Yea, the ford manuals don't have those details, at least not in the ones I looked at. The closest thing I've found is in the Dennis Carpenter catalog they have an exploded diagram of all the steering parts - but it's a little confusing because it has automatic/manual and 3 on tree all together in one chart. You can download a pdf http://www.dennis-carpenter.com/pdf/67-72_truck.pdf (page 20 pdf, page 10 catalog)

Thanks for any help.
I am preparing to do the same thing. What kind of problems, specifically, did you encounter. I have the steering column from a '77 that I was hoping to just swap the guts into my already established steering column.
I just put a 77 steering column in my 72 F100 that head 3
on tree with a 360. I put a 302 with a automatic in place of
the 360 and manual shift.
The steering column in the trucks with out power steering are
3 inchs longer that power steering I'm going to put power steering
in my 69 F100 Have all the parts but a steering column and
wheel.
For an exploded steering column diagram that should be pretty close, go to www.broncograveyard.com
Their diagram is of a '68 Bronco, and you can print it out full-size. Hope this helps!
