It All started with the transmission giving me some problems on my 01 F450, so i brought it into the tranny shop and $3000 later i was on my way. Then the front hub bearing went so while it was at the dealer i had him go through the truck and $2500 later i thought i would be set for a while. Nope. just the other night my driver calls and says the truck was acting funny then he smelt oil buring, he pulled over shut it off and engine oil was pouring out from the side of the engine. Had it towed to the nearest Ford dealer. Just got the call, i guess it needs a high pressure oil pump, thats where theyt say all the engine oil is coming from and some from the turbo pedestal o rings, now its going to cost me another $1900 to fix. Im pretty new to diesels i thought ther HPOP was for fuel, anyone have some insight on this? The truck only has 122k on it. I have a few more of these that are nearing the same mileage should i start looking for some new trucks or what?
Sounds like you pretty much have a new truck now. Yes the HPOP is for the fuel injectors but without looking at it I would bet you blew a pressure line on it or the little rubber seal where it goes into the pressure rail. As for the o-rings on the pedistal yeah they leak it is a very poor design on it. As a friend of mine stated it lokks as if the pedistal came from a mold found and the beach in mexico. Any way the o-rings are only 13 bucks for all four, it the labor you pay for on those things, If you want I can tell you how to change them yourself, It takes some time but it is easy. As for the HPOP someone else will have to chime in as I do not know a whole lot about them just yet.
I guess my main question is , does the HPOP have engine oil passing threw it? Because the engine has no oil in it now, and thats what was all over the place. i just dont want to spend a$1000 and then have the dealer tell me the oil is leaking from somewhere elese. its hard to understand sometimes because people call the diesel fuel, "oil" also.
