Front Axle Question
I just removed the entire front end off of a 1977 F150 with power disk brakes. On a previous post, someone stated that these axles would be wider than the ones on my 1969. I measured and compared the two years, but do not see any difference. They do have different part numbers.....Can anyone tell me the difference?
I noticed that the radius arms on my 69 are forged and the 77's appear to be stamped steel. Does anyone have a feeling which would be better to use?

I think they're usually the same length, or close enough. According to my Chilton's, they did change the king pin angle a few times over the years, so I always change out the whole thing, rather than just spindles. I think the forged radius rods look more 'industrial'. Kewl! I don't think they are functionally different; just cheaper to make (stamped ones).

Thanks. You have the same idea I came up with, using the 77 axles with the 69 radius arms. Should look awesome with everything powercoated. Can't wait to see how much better, easier, my ride will stop.

I think some people have stated that the axle perch locations are wider (due to a wider frame), but I have a '78 I'm swapping a front axle into my '71 and the perch width is the same, so not sure where this came from.

Rich, that could have been me. I was certain that the width was differant. I have a '71 with drums up front, and I purchased a D44 from a '76 F150. Let us know how this all works out, I am right behind you. DF, @ his Dad's
