Hey I went today to get my truck tested at Autozone and they weren't able to do it because the can only do vehicle about 1996. They tried but their code reader couldn't plug into my computer port. Any suggestions???? thanks
Check the "sticky" at the top of the page titled "technical Information". Under the Emissions section, look at " pulling EEC IV codes" this should cover it. Or you can get a ford OBD I scanner at wal-mart for $24.The EEC IV system is also known as the OBD I system (On Board Diagnostic) Mid 95 and later went to the EEC V or OBD II system.
I went to walmart and they are no longer selling the scanner but I found one on ebay for cheap. Anyways, If it is a sticky valve body, can I clean it?? can i replace it?? I don't have an unlimited amount of money and I am very handy with fixin cars, just not transmissions. also, is there a way to manually pull the codes with a few wires and a led light or something. the guy at walmart that told me they don't saller scanners anymore told me he knew how to do it for GM vehicles but not Fords. Thanks for the help so far guys!
I am going to post a thread on how to pull codes manually so If you want you can post the reply to my last question there, but please continue to answere my tranny questions as winter is creapin up fast! thanks again
At the top of this forum in the technical notes is information on how to pull the codes on your truck. Make sure you check for codes before getting into the tranny. You might try a can of Sea Foam to see if it helps. I've had pretty good luck with it.
Hey - I bought a code reader off of ebay and checked the codes. guess what!!!! code 111 - system pass . I almost wish there was a problem. now I am very frustrated. What the heck is wrong with the stupid thing? should I just replace the TPS and VSS?? What should I do now?
I wouldn't know if it lost vacuum because I has not done it since the temperature has been above 45 degrees. Can I just open the tranny fluid pan and clean the valve body or do I need to remove the valve body. OR do I need to take the whole tranny apart??
I'd try the "SeaFoam" Trans Tune, as has been suggested by Hreed. It smoothed out a harsh 2-1 down shift I'd always had on my 94 Taurus.
It's a cleaner, not a seal sweller, so it won't get after your "O" rings gaskets, or plastic parts. Just use it as specified on the can. You can find it at most autoparts stores, Advance Auto in my area stocks it for about $7.
OK - Very excited!!! When I said I got code 111 - that was the key off engine off test. I completely forgot to do the Key on engine on test. When I did, guess what!!!!!
code 167 which is "Throttle Position sensor fault during dynamic response test." That means my TPS is bad right???? or does that mean the stupid code reader just couldn't read it making the problem still - - - - - unknown. IF my TPS is bad - will that cause my VSS to go bad AND/OR should I replace both or just the TPS if it is bad?? Thanks for all the help so far. Please respond here if you already have - but I'm gonna post a new thread about code 167 so I can get the maximun responses that I can. THanks again!!
alright - I tested it again - this time reving the engin up during the test and I got code 111 - system pass. never mind about the the TPS. I'm just going to live with it i think.
thanks again
