well was going to change the vavle cover gasket but i snaped the metal fuel line no big deal fixed that. and had been hearin some valve noise so figured id fire it up and lokk for some slop in the valve train. well all the exhaust pushrods are spinnin fast, and the oil return holes have steady amount of smoke comin out them so i thing the rings are gone. any other possibilities?it has been burnin oil.
Was there any oil coming out of the oiler holes in the head? Any flowing down thru the pushrods? Any oil at ALL on the top while the engine is running? If not, you could very well have a bad oil pump, bad oil pump pickup. Or a bad oil pump driveshaft.
The only time i'd think that it would need rings if it were absolutely bellowing oil smoke out the exhaust. Smoke/steam out of the oil return holes wouldn't nessisarily mean that the rings were shot.
oil was comin ou thte top of the rockers and smoke was comin out the return holes and it does blow ALOT of smoke out the exhaust. so i'm leanin towards the rings. actually sellin it cheap if it'll last tilll november/ december. i'm transfering to germany. so no need to make it 100%.
