91 E150 Wheel Load Capacity

91 E150 Wheel Load Capacity
While rotating the tires on my van yesterday, I noticed that throught the brake dust, I could read the wheel size and max load along with the Ford emblem stamped onto the inside of the wheel. After a little cleaning, I read the following "MAX LOAD 1900 LBS".
How can this be, I asked The stock tire max load is 2183 lbs (P235/75R15 XL).
Then I started assuming (which is not always a good thing)... when engineers design things, there is some safety factor involved. And it is probably better to have a tire with a higher margin of load safety due to the fact that the load carrying capacity of the tire is dependent on the inflation pressure and the load carrying capacity of the wheel is constant.
However, I have read a few posts on here in which there is some question regarding changing tire sizes and keeping the max load carrying capability the same. My suggestion is, make sure that you keep in mind that the tire may not be the limiting factor as far as the max load.
If you were wondering, the wheel is a 15x6, 10 hole, aluminum.
