Hey all, i have a question for you. I just bought a 1978 F-250 Ranger Explorer from a really good friend with 112,850 documented miles and i want to know 2 things. First:
i can't figure out which transfercase it has? The pattern is 2L-N-2H-4H. Also can anyone give me a example of what i would use each for?
Second:
I also can't figure what front axle i have. it's probably stamped but i can't find the stamp, i know where it should be, but it's really dirty and grimey. What axle do you think I could have. My rear is a Dana 60 4.10 Limited Slip. So i know it has to have a 4.10 up front.
Thanks,
Aaron

I assume you meant to say 4L-N-2H-4H, which appears to be an NP205, part-time manual cast iron gear-drive 'case. The other one used in those years was the full-time chain-drive NP203, which had HighLock-High-N-Low-LowLock, if my memory serves me right (it's been a few years since I had a truck with an NP203). The front axle should be a Dana 44, or could possibly be a Dana 60, if the truck was ordered with the 'Snow Fighter' plow package. The ratio is likely 4.09 in the front.
