76 E350 Brake Problems

Hello,

I have 1976 E350 Ford van. My problem for the minuite is how can you test if the brake booster is bad? When the van is running the peddal is very hard to push. It is pluged into a vacuum port on the manifold. Also someone took off the porportioning valve off and just put connectors in. I tried to get one from the junk yard, but every van/truck had the valve missing with connectors in place.

I took one from a 80 some Bronco (only ford that had one) would that work? My other problem is that my dash light has been disabled(as the rest of the guages) and I do not know what the original brake light wire looked light since my harness had been modified to remove the electronic ignition to run off points. Do not ask why I do know.

Any help would be great. Plus if that is not bad the VIN number has been removed also.
