how much rust is too much on frame?
I've got a '77 high boy F-250 and when I got the bed off I saw the rear frame is much rustier than I expected. You can pull 1/8" layers of rust off the horizontal surfaces in some spots and I see one small hole where it's rusted through on the vertical part of the frame near the center crossmember.
Is this a total loss or can I sandblast everything, weld a panel over the hole, and POR-15 the whole thing? Is it ok to lose some layers off an F-250 frame since it's heavier to begin with?

I would say it is worth a shot cleaning it first, then see how bad the frame is overall. According to my shop manuals, there are only really two types of frames, the light ones and the heavy ones. Heavy ones are like the F800, C series, and the like. Econoline, F series and bronco are light.
