Oil problems... HELP!

Well, the oil filler cap is leaking oil and some is going into the air cleaner. The vent hole (or whatever it is) is shooting oil out. It's coming out hard enough to make it to the firewall sometimes. I can't actually see it do it, but I can wipe down the driver side of the motor and firewall and after driving for a while, it's soaked again. The fuel pump hole is also smoking after I drive for a while. I've tried revving the engine in idle, but got nothing. It uses about a quart of oil every 200 miles or so... normally. This morning though, it lost almost all the oil in a matter of about 20 miles. I filled it back up with 20w50 and it's running like normal now, just minor oil loss.
Background on the truck... It's an 84 2WD F150, it has 102,2xx miles on it and has an automatic tranny. I just recently (within a day or two) did an oil change with 10w40, Fram filter and some Engine Restorer.
Is this all from blowby of the piston rings? What's up with the fuel pump hole? Could I just re-ring the pistons to cure the blowby (I don't have the money, time or place to completely rebuild)? Any other ideas?

A bad PCV valve can cause excessive crankcase pressure and resultant oil force-out. However your problem sounds extreem and it may be time for a compression check. But, if you are lucky, a new PCV might be a quick and cheap fix.

Where is that, what does it look like? I wouldn't imagine that costing very much, I'll try that first.

The pcv valve is mounted on the top rear of your valve cover. It has a hose running from it to your carb. If you shake it, it ashould rattle. There should be vacuum present when the engine is running. However, it sounds like blowby on the rings to me. Especially since the 50w oil seemed to fix it. Good luck, John

Could a stopped up cat contribute to this? The thing looks like it's original.

If the cat caused the initial problem, I don't see how the addition of the heavier oil would have changed it. So I'll stick with my original guess. Have you tried a compression test? Good luck, John

Not yet, I'm going to do that tomorrow. I didn't have the time today. What kind of numbers should I look for ideally (or expect for 102k miles), 130's? What is considered bad or in need or replacement?

i dont know about good numbers but as long as all numbers are pretty close its usually a good sign. i had a bronco with an i6 that had the same problem i changed the pcv and a bunch of other things but im positive it was the rings or cylanders, you could possibly do piston rings, hone the cylanders, and do valve seals, other than that i got no ideas

It just came to me, someone said the PCV should rattle? Well, I changed out my valve cover gasket the other day and the whole time I was moving it around (the PCV), I didn't hear anything from it. It also fits VERY loosely in it's grommet. The oil filler cap doesn't fit tight either. I'm going to try those today.

If your fuel pump is leaking oil out of the vent holes on the side of the pump it's time to replace it. Also ck this thread http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=270339 maybe it will help.

I didn't notice any, but the fuel pump is bad. I'm going to replace that today if I have time. I already have it, just have to put it in. After I replace it, I'm going to change the oil again just to check it and be sure.
