Recently I had to take the throttle body off to clean the danged thing out. While it was off, I apparently managed to loosen my dipstick while unbolting things, so now she's marking territory.
Anybody ever have this problem, and if so, how did you stop it. I figure I probably lose about a quart every 10 days or so, and I am getting tired of supporting Castrol!
Look at the bright side. With all that extra top-up oil, you can extend your drain interval considerably.
I would think the point where the dipstick tube enters the block is a couple inches above the oil level, no? Maybe some Permatex or other liquid gasket would seal it up (if you can get the tube out of the block to apply the sealer). Be sure to use sparingly so it does not get into the crankcase.
I had this problem to, but on a different motor. Like TallPaul suggested, I unbolted the dipstick, used a little sealant around the end, and bolted back in place. No problemes since!
i've taken to leaving my oil fill cap off, due to sever crank case pressure that was continuously blowing the dipstick 1 to 1 1/2 inches out of the tube, painting my engine compartment a nice shade of oil black...since i've done that, i've gone from a case a week to rougly....3 quarts a week...or so...am currently in the process of checking that number to be certain....i'm getting tired of supporting wal-mart and super tech...roflmao
Montana ford seen lots of fords that way. I fix them or you can say patch them by installing a 2nd PCV valve. First make sure the first one is working correctly replace PCV & hose. If it's a steel line clean it out & also clean the carb PCV port some times you have to pull the carb to clean the bottem ports. Then but a tee on PCV HOSE TO RUN THE 2ND PCV. You can install 2nd pcv where the breath filter hooks up to the valve cover, eliminating the crank case breath filter.
BCS has some interesting points. I am no expert, so don't tear down the engine without further verification. You also can try some Redline SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner (I'd go two bottles, one after the other, full strenght) . That may free up stuck rings. Else Auto-rx.com may be worth a shot. If you have decent power, I would think the rings are not shot, but sticky.
Yup, Tall Paul I've seen engines ready for the scrap pile blowing oil out the dip stick tube, leaking oil from every where. Elimnating the crank case pressure & creating a crank case vacuum almost stops all the leaks.
