No headlights - multipurpose switch???

98 F150 XLT. Intermittent problem with headlights not turning on - all the parking and turn signal lights do turn on, pulling multipurpose and high beams will come on and if you keep messing with the multipupose switch, the headlights will eventually turn on and stay on. Is the multipurpose switch also the switch for changing high-beams on and off or is there a separate switch in the column for this? Do you think the multipurpose switch is dead? My guess is there is a dead point in some switch between when the low beams and high beams are activated. Thanks for the help!

Multipurpose switch? Ummm Do you mean that you have the turn signal, high/low beam and main headlight switch oin the column? If so..good...then I know what you mean...sorry..mine is on the dash for headlights. If you mess with it then it starts to work then I would definately replace the switch. You aren't moving anything else so it pretty much narrows it down to that switch.

Yep! If the headlights are intermittant, sounds like the copper contacts in the multifunction switch are bad. Happens all the time!

Good Luck,

Tim
