truck stopped running during normal operations. i changed the fuel pump and the fuel pump relay and it still isn't working. i have tried to check the inertia switch. i can't find it. where is it located and how do i test it? any info would be appreciated
The Inertia switch is located to the right of the transmission hump , just below or in the general area of the heater plenum . Before you replace anymore parts find out why the engine died . It has to have fuel , spark & air . About the only way the ineria switch would have tripped is if you hit something , Ive seen some trip hitting curbs & potholes . If its tripped , its red reset button will be popped up . If thats not the cause , determine if you have fuel pressure at the engine & that there is spark .
Hey I noticed you just changed your fuel pump relay. Mine is stuck in the energized position. (enen with the key out it stays on) Had to disconnect the battery to stop it. I found the three relays under the fuse box on the passenger side fender well. Whick one is the fuel pump? Doesn't matter which one I disconnect, they pump stops for all three! They are color coded, Green Brown and Gray. Which is the correct relay? Thanks in advance!
If you look closely on the black plastic that the relays fit in you should see the fuel pump relay labeled . However , I think its the Green one ? One relay is the fuel pump , one the Abs relay & EEC relay .
I decided to go to the parts store with all three relays in my pocket an ask for a fuel pump relay/ They came up with a Borg Warner relay that is gray. The green and brown relays have four pins inside and the gray one has 5 pins. The gray one they gave me also has 5 pins. I swaped out the gray one and all seems well. Of course I have been shaking them around and could have temporarily fixed the bad one. Not sure I replaced the right one or not. They are all keyed to only fit one plug. Of course the Borg one is not keyed at all. Any thoughts? I guess time will tell...
