Hello again, I'm tryin to figure out what tranny/ transfer case setup to use in my 71 f-100 with a 330 to 350 horse 390 just built. I would like to be able to have good highway cruising speeds although still have a low crawl ratio for hills and rocks. So far if i can stick with what ford produced, im thinking either the np435 or t18, and a np205. Im actually leaning towards a nv4500 5 speed. as far as the low ratio's if i go with a 4 speed should i get a doubler transfer kit to go real low? right now i got the t18 and a dana21. im planning on running 37s and 4.10s in my dana44/ford9 rears with ARB in front and Detroit in rear.any help greatly appreciated. thanks Stan
it all comes down on how much your willing to spend. I mean if price were no object I would have an NV4500 5 speed and an Atlas II transfercase. So you wanna stick with a manual I assume? Why don't you save some money and rebuild your t18 and put on a doubler with an np205/np203. This is a real good combo to give you tons of gearing options that will be able to crawl but able to keep your highway gears.
Fishy: That setup isn't possible... Noone makes an adaptor to bolt the 6 speed to anything other than a NVG271... It uses the standard bolt pattern, but, the transmission output shaft is larger to better handle the torque of the PSD...
Whether or not it is possible, I agree, that is one dream setup. Six gears plus a doubler. That would be sweet. I remember a few years ago there was a thing called the Brabnod Mountain Gear. It used air shifters like a big rig. It was a under, straight and overdrive. That is quite a selection of gearing. I don't know if they are still in business or not, but it would be cool. Of course, all these are great if money is no object.
