Has anyone every compared if one carb is better than two, or is two better than one. I sure would like to get any input on this topic. Also in these setups is a dual plane 2x4 better than a single plane?? I have never run a 2x4 setup , have heard it can be tricky setting one up, but I do see a lot of Fe engines running a 2 carb setup ??
I think they look awesome but I doubt they offer too much over the single setups as far as street/strip performance levels go. I'm sure the tunnel rams with duals are making more power but that is a different story. If somebody gave me a dual setup I would definitely run it but I can't see where all that extra money is going to add a lot of power.
Everyone tells me to put a single carb on my race car. They say it will go faster??? Why??? Don't know? They think it will flow better, the intake will be better designed..blah, blah, blah. Ya, right , okay. Sure.
Now...who is going to give me like $1200 to buy the intake and dominator to "try" and see if it is actually quicker??? Ya, seems that pretty much keeps the peanut gallery quiet.
I run the tunnelwedge which is the medium riser port version of the tunnelport intake. It is the only single plane 2x4 intake Ford ever made for the FE. I think it works pretty darn good. With two 600 Holleys it will run consistent to the thousandths. I've got the time slips to prove it. I even won the dead on contest a month back. Two back to back passes, dead on to the thousandth. Not bad for the ONLY stick shift, dual quad, small tire wagon running at my track!! Take that and shove it in your convertor!!! LOL!!
Anyhow, setting them up is not that hard. Keep it simple. I've got them on all my hot rods(all three). They all start easy, idle great and still get decent mileage if you don't hammer it constantly.

I don't claim much fame, but I flaunt it when I can...
I get hassled ALL the time about my car, but then I get alot of compliments on driving it. I'm not the most feared car, but most guys know I am not a complete "duck". "DUCK" ie: sitting duck, easy pickin's, sucker, loser(most of the time). The owner of the track does alot of the announcing....and I was described as "The hardest working driver at DW42"!!
Most guys run 'glides with a shift noid on them . Come on...can't you even shift ONCE right by YOURSELF!!
Me and running an automatic.... BORING!!!!!

If you've got two progressive four-barrells, and they are somwhat lined up with pairs of cylinders, they will certainly give better (more direct) fuel/air flow than a single four-bbl sitting in the middle.
Look at it - a 4bbl Holley/whatever in the center of the intake does have differences in distance between the feeding barrells and the intake ports across all cylinders. A double 4bbl setup gives more direct air flow to each cylinder.
Still, too much is too much, so they should be smaller 4bbls unless your crazy
A set of four 2bbl downdraft Webers (one butterfly per cylinder) is even cooler... and better flowing...
Back when I had my 427, I ran it at first with a 427MR/428PI intake and 780 Holley, ran fine, but nothing like it did after swapping on a Lowriser 2x4 intake and 2-600 Holley's. WHAT a difference! To use the 2 carbs, you really need a motor that can use them, unless you use smaller carbs. On a 390 build, I'd go with 2-390 cfm carbs, or 2-450's at most. I'm about to go with a tri-power setup on a built 331 stroker small block, but here again the carbs it has are small, 3-250's, ought to be about perfect for it.
