Resurrecting dying E-brake cable?

Has anyone had any luck lubricating rusty parking brake cables? I have a '90 F150 4X4 and both cables are very stiff and the inner cables are hard to move. I have hear that you can free them up and oil/lube them and reuse them. I have removed the cables and I'm wondering if it is worth trying, or should I forget this idea? I'm going to cut the rubber cushions off them and soak them in oil.
Does anyone have any other ideas? ...Terry

I would say just buy new ones. I tried this on my truck, and ended up getting really mad and ordering a set from LMC. I suppose it is worth a try, as maybe yours will let go fairly easily, but mine didn't. Ted

I am experiencing a siilar situation on my truck, I think my cable is binding up righht beyond the pedal. I will have to take it apart and look at it tomorrow, what is the easiest way to loosen the cable and take it apart? And what's a new cable go for?
