New gauge NIGHTMARES

Man, These gauges are an eye opener. I cannot believe how fast my exhaust temps go up under WOT. I can easily see 1450 almost 1500 before mine gets into high gear. I can almost use it as a speedometer. 50 mph 500 degs, and so on. boost is about 24lbs and I have the 85hp tune in. This does'nt seen normal to me, how about anyone else?

Methanol/water injection.
It can be good for up to 200 degrees off your EGT and it adds power.

Yep - I'm running about the same kind of temperatures when I do a full throttle 1/4 mile run. Nice huh?? If you're gonna be doing it very often - I'd defintely recomend looking into water/meth.

Some of the guys here are using the water/meth and they love it. I have not used it personally so I can only tell you what I've heard. I've heard of mixes from 80/20 to 50/50. Usually 5 gallons or less on board, and it can be used in stages. I really don't know of any downside to it. If you wanted to start a new thread about it you could get much more info than you could from me.

The only down sides that I have heard of is that if you're already close to max boost levels - it can be the finishing touch to your headgaskets. It raises boost #'s by about 3-4 psi. Also - if you inject too much - or just at too low a boost level - you can do some damage.

That's closer to being the norm than the exception.

There are several little things you can do t help control the EGT's. You can disable the wastegate to add a few pounds of boost. You can also delete the exhaust backpressure valve, the intake air heater and the muffler. Those mods will get you down around 1300 at WOT and you've spent less that $50 total. For about $500 you can add the water injection and another $1600 will get you a ball bearing turbo. Either of those will be good for around 200 degrees reduction.

I've done everything I just listed and I can keep the pedal to the mat forever and never see 1200 degrees.

I am not sure where the intake air heater is. Is it easy to find if you don't know what your looking for. That souds dumb but you know what I mean.

It's right in the middle of the turbo "Y" manifold. Big (like 1 1/8") nut with a wire connected to it.

One thing I've got to ask; With aluminums melting point at 1220.58F how long can the turbo impeller be exposed to these temps before softening and reaching fluidity?

I doubt the impeller ever gets anywhere near that hot since it's always drawing outside air in. Probably never gets much over a couple hundred degrees.....of course, that's an assumption.

The turbo vanes are steel rather than aluminum.
1,500 degrees isn't a serious short-term issue for the material it's
made out of, you burn the seals and bearings in the turbo first.
