Arrow Maf Sensor and EGR

Maf Sensor

Ive seen on this site about cleaning the MAF sensor, Where is it on the 4.6 in a 1997 F-150? Ive changed the EGR valve and Egr pressure sensor and cleaned the lines to the sensor. Check engine light has come back on. Am in the process of checking the vacuum lines. My codes show insufficient flow to EGR.

I am currently having that same problem. My truck is in the garage today because I tried so many things and got tired of messing with it. I will let you know what he says about my truck and maybe that will help you.

If you do get brave enough to clean the MAF, use only electrical contact cleaner or compress air in a can, like you would clean a computer with. The contacts in the MAF are VERY sensitive and can be ruined easily. There's people that have ruined the MAF just by cleaning their K&N air filters, not letting them air dry properly, and the oil getting on the contacts. It's not cheap either. Usually if your air filter is clean then the MAF should be just fine.

It's located in the air box, where the filter is. Pop open the filter cartridge and to the left, inside the 3" "tunnel" is the MAF.

I'm thinking you may have carbon buildup in your throttle body partially blocking the vaccuum lines to the EGR. Remove the plastic throttle body cover, unscrew the hose clamp holding the air intake tube on and look inside the throttle body, open the butterfly and look down the TB neck with a flashlight if you have to. If it doesn't look clean, try spraying some STP throttle body cleaner inside or Berryman's B12 Chemtool in a spray can. The truck may be a little hesitant to start after you get everything put back together but it should work, at least that's what cured my dad's 99' 4.6.

Edit:

If you wish to remove the throttle body to easier clean the TB neck, there's only 4 bolts holding it on and the throttle linkage and cruise control (if equipped) cables just slide out. The gasket between the throttle body and neck is reusable too. Hope this helps a little.

That was just a minor booboo
I dont even remember what happened there. When you fix vehicles for a living you end up with things like that quite regularly. What I really hate is when I look down and find I'm leaking all over someone's carpet or seat or something
lol
