[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Mar-02 AT 01:16 AM (EST)]Stolen merchandise is Given up by the bearer.
Then an investigation starts.
That's why it is ***So Important*** to do a lien search when buying something.
If the registration number(VIN #) is wrongly put on a pink slip and
If you were to be involved in an accident and it was found out the vehicle was actually stolen.
Watch out!

Looks like someone got "stuck" with one. The cops are probrably not actively looking for this truck. But like someone said, if you get into an accident and the cops check the viin, you'll at LEAST be listed as potential witness, or at worst a suspect. Be careful as "the yard" will deny ever knowing you.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Mar-02 AT 04:55 PM (EST)]I didn't buy the truck from a yard, the previous owner did.
I still can get in touch with the previous owner - I have his name, address, his other address, phone number.
I can describe him in a flash. The title he gave me has his name on it, and his driver's license # on it. I didn't change titles, becauase it's not the correct one.
Now I am stuck with it. Ugh! This is turning into a nightmare!
I can't get rid of it, right? To recoup the loss, part it out..
I've tried looking for something that will check the records "annoymously".
If you really like and want to keep this truck, rather than parting it out, look online or in the phone book for companies that do title search work. If you can't find one, call a "Used Car Dealer" and ask if they can direct you as to who you can contact. I haven't used one of these places in many-a-year, but I believe their service used to cost around $150. They did all the research and even got it re-titled for me.
You said you were an AAA member,Go in there pretending to wanting search it for liens because you're thinking of buying it.
As a member ,it shouldn't cost more than $20 for a lien search.
If stolen ,that would come up too. They should give you paperwork on iut for verification.
