SOHC or DOHC
Hey guys I have a 00 expedition 5.4l and was wondering what the heck SOHC is and DOHC and what I have in my car. Might sound like a dumb question but for me I am confused thanx for any help

Mod motors in come in both flavors, depending on application. I think the Expedition gets the SOHC motor and the Navigator gets the DOHC.
Your door sticker and/or VIN will have an engine code which your owner's manual or someone here can translate for you.
There are obvious visual differences in the motors as the DOHC set up is much wider at each head, but I can't tell you exactly what they are.

Generally speaking a cylinder has two valves, one for intake and one for exhaust. The double overhead cam engines have more valves, three or four, to increase performance, efficiency, etc.

Start with a superchip then graduate to a blower if you still want more power.
Other areas you can get a little more power are: 1. electric fans, 2. underdrive pulleys, 3. larger tb but you need to port and polish the neck it is attached to in order to realize any gains.
With 35's, gears would be where I'd start for performance gains.

Thanx ya I was thinking of a chip how much would I gain with either throttle body or cold air intake?
