Axle code

1989 F150. Tag on rear axle cover has some numbers. I think the H8 02 is the rear ratio code. Anyone know what gears I have?

According to a chart in the tech articles section of this site, it's a 3.08 ratio limited slip model.

Thank you. Thought maybe they were a little steeper considering I am pulling 2750 RPM at 60MPH (C6 3speed trans).

Sounds like your tires are small diameter or your torque converter slips alot to be running that high of rpm at that low speed with those high gears.... I run about 3000 rpms @ 60mph with 4.56 gears and 33" tires with a C6 trans. Maybe a previous owner changed the gears in your truck, or maybe your speedo is off?

Trans is newly rebuilt by a reputable center, added a beast of a shift kit! Definitley NO slippage. Tires are 235/75/R15, which is stock. I know the speedo is dead on, I checked it with a buddy driving next to me. Gear change, doubt it, although I did think about that, I bought the truck from an old man, original owner, only 85k and it is an '89. I don't think he'd change ft/rr gears. I am averaging 12.5-13 MPG though in mixed driving which is OK with me for right now.

I got a 300 with a 4 speed od. my rear gear is a 3.55. I get 11-13 mpg. with 31"
2600 rpm at 70 miles per hour.
so your not to far from the same ratio.
