94 Explorer EEC-IV Code 186
I am getting a fault code 186. The check engine light comes on for a few seconds when I accelerate then resets. My Haynes manual says the probable cause is "injector pulse width higher than expected" but does not tell me what sensors control this or how to check them. Can anyone help me on this?

Many thanks Mikeman. I cleaned the MAF sensor with carb cleaner, reset the computer and no more 186 code. The process is easy, just remove the two screws holding the MAF sensor in the air intake. Spray clean with carb cleaner and replace, clear the fault codes and test drive. The only hard part is finding the tamper proof torx screwdriver to remove the screws. I drilled out the end of a regular torx driver.
