does anybody know if there is a such thing as an 86-97 solid front d44??? apparently this year of axle bolts under mine pretty easily with very little cutting as i am looking for a solid axle to toss under my 88 f1.
The best way to go is with the '78 or '79 F150 or Bronco Dana 44. These are plentiful and the more desirable year of the the 44s from what I understand (don't know the exact reason).
Ford had a Dana 50 and Dana60 in those years but both are 8 lug. I dont know that they ever had a solid 44 in those years.

actually you can use 76 on, the reason for more desirable is the disk brakes after 76. And after 1980 I don't know of any Ford with a solid D44 front axle but I won't place bets on that as everytime I do someone shows me some weird thing ford did, that I hadn't heard of, but for the most part consider that as not being a possiblility, and grab one from the late 70s
The 78 and 79's are reverse cut, high pinion 44's. They are a little stronger.
No, there are no 80 and up solid 44's.
77,and 76, and infact 73 and up are all reverse cut high pinion D44s but only from 76 on are they disk brake, actually the only thing I can see different is that when you lift a 76 or earlyh 77 you need to change the steering components to the 78-79 parts to fit the drop pitman arms, but the axles are the same
