i recently bought a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge with 40,000 miles on it. At 45,000 miles the check engine light came on. It sometimes goes out but only temperally. Yesterday th air bag light came on. It blinks 4 times then 7 or just the reverse.Whichever it happens to be.It has the 3.0 engine with a automatic tranny.2wd.After you shut the truck off the air bag usually goes out for a while the comes back on.Anybody know what the code means.Help!!!
Yes your air bag light is flashing out a code for diagnostic, double check it to make sure its code 47(four flashes, pause, seven flashes). I'll try to find the code list for you.
My list might be out of date, but I dont show a 47. For the check engine light, take it to Autozone (if you dont want to pull the codes yourself)& get the codes pulled. Write them down & post them here.
It is a "passenger pretensioner circuit resistance high" code. Don't work on it without disconnecting the battery for at least 5 mins. THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE PHYSICAL HARM. Check under the seat and make sure all the connectors under the seat are secure. Otherwise take it to the dealer..

I see it's an 01 vehicle, if this puppy is still under some kind of warranty, I'd let the seller have it, for a fix.
On the check engine light I'd also let them look at that too.
If it's not under a warranty, ALL your's now, & you don't own a scanner or code reader, by all means take it to our favorite autoparts store, like Advance Auto, AutoZone, ect, for a no cost computer scan on the check engine light. Don't let it go, find out whats wrong & put it right.
