"Kingpin Expert"
I had already tried to pound them out and the 75 units were really stuck. The spindle on one wouldn't even turn. I also tried to remove the 65s on the truck but no luck either.
Well, the press certainly did the trick. I think I used all 20 tons on one of them and it really popped once it finally gave. The whole press jumped when it broke loose!
Thanks to all of you that provided the advice in the various threads on this topic. If anyone in the DFW Texas area is in need of "expert" kingpin services,
drop me a line. I am in Arlington.Chris
We hook you with a fix for one problem and you can never get away from us...Muuuhhhahahahahah!
It's good to hear back when an issue is fixed. All too often a thread is started and never closed because the problem got fixed and the user didn't need FTE anymore. Closure is nice
BUT....I used my dads press...also from harbor freight....put a heckuva load on it and when it popped...KABANG!!!!!!! man....vise never woulda done it....not even close....
As to the king pin that was a bomb when it let go...was it frozen ??? any grease left??? Did you have to heat it as you added load to remove ???? And was spindle froze as to turning or did it turn freely....I got a pair awaiting removal too.....
How was it going back together as to reaming bushing, etc ????

I did not want to apply heat so I soaked them pretty thoroughly once under pressure and used an air hammer to try to vibrate them loose. It eventually worked.
In spite of all the difficulty breaking them loose, the spindle bores all seem to be in good condition, no scarring rust etc. The kingpin kit is on order. I will be using the nylon bushings as I do not plan on putting that many miles on it.
