Truck was in for the 30,000 mile checkup. I had the transmission fluid changed. On my invoice I see that they put in coolant additive. I thought we did not need this on a 2002 model? If not needed will this hurt the cooling system?
2002 was the changeover year. If you have green coolant you need the additive - if it's yellow then you don't and take it back to 'em immediately. Using the additive in the yellow is bad I think.
"Using the additive in the yellow is bad I think."
I s this a guess or a fact? I recently changed out the coolant in my 2000 to the yellow stuff ZERTEC G-05 which after I added the additive from Ford I found out that It was not needed. Is the excess going to harm my rig. Im not trying to hyjack here but now you have me very concerned. Its only been 1,000 miles since I flushed and refilled the coolant system so I doubt that any damage has been done but if you have any hard facts they would be great. I was under the impressioin that extra addative would'nt harm but be more of a waste of money.
Well with 30,000 on it and damn near 3 years old it is time to change it anyway in my opinion so I would change it out if you have the gold and put gold back in it the little bit that may be left will not hurt it I wouldn't think.
