I have a 99 7.3 with a 186,000. It has never been in the shop or back to the dealer. It runs as fine now as the day I got (used with 40,000). This is my 2nd Ford diesel. I had 475,000 on my 86 when it was stolen. It was stock also.
I'm wondering if the expense and effort is REALLY worth the HP and does it really add longevity to the engine?
I have always changed oil & filter at 3,500. Used a fuel additive. Changed fuel filter every 4th oil change. Transmisson fluid and filter every 25,000. ALL others at 50,000.
Off and on I check here for advice. It just seems I can't justify the $$$ for the mods. Are they really worth it?.............................OTTO
As I have said before, these trucks are fine just the way Ford builds them. Modding is not something that HAS to be done in order to have a decent truck. Choose to mod or not....whichever makes you HAPPY.........
It sounds like you've already put over 1/2 million miles on a stock truck without complaints. If you're not power hungry, modding might not be right for you. Besides being my daily driver, my truck is also my hobby. If I had a life, I might find something better to do with my time. But for now, this is pretty much it.
I have a life and a wife. Can I trade them both in on another PSD. I could always use two of those. By the way I am selling a wife slightly used, pampered and not a scratch on her, even have two spare children at no extra charge. Any takers? I am consolidating as the mod bug has bit me and I cannot afford the wife any longer.
At 500+ pounds of torque there certainly is no NEED for mods. The truck can pull just about anything. My only reason for contemplating mods would be in the quest for the best MPG possible. More power?? Lets be real here, for what? If we want to be fast I would not choose an F250 right? Then again...............
