I have been watching the mess in FL. I have one here in Kali....waiting for the big earthquake. If the power goes out, I go and pull a battery out of one of the trucks. I crank up the Onan and go get some extension cords. I then plug in the reefer, tv, a couple of lights, and then the computer. Hmmmmn.....since I am now on cable, I may not have internet.
I have a generator in my RV (onan actually). My dad has a 5000 watt generac in the garage. We used to have it wired in nicely on our old house, but my dad hasn't done anything with it since we moved to another house.
We kept loosing power at my old house, bought a generator, and hardly ever lost power again after that. Figures....
I have a 7,500 watt generator. It paid for itself last year when the hurricane hit us, and we were without power for 4 days. It saved all the food in the freezer and refrigerator.
My neighbors weren't too happy with the noise, so I had to cut back running it all the time. Guess I'll have to get one of the larger mufflers for it one of these days.
My next door neighbor is the type you don't share anything with, not even a "Good Morning".....
God I hate people like that. I know what you mean. I have a couple of arrogant neighbors my self. I tell them once in a while to take prozac. Wow that puts them on a nother planet. I have a generator I'm thinking about sending down there when my friend heads back down at the end of the week.
7500 watt portable genny......live in the boonies and when we loose power it is for a while......if your neighbor dosesnt like it he dosest have to come out of the house and listen to it.....you might not like his face, so you dont look at it. right????
Velly Solly to report, generator is only riceburner I own.Is 5000w Honda.Worky velly good.
Buy any type generator you want... But Sooner or later you WILL buy a Honda.
It is a True saying.
I own 2 Honda's. A 2000 Watt and a 3000 Watt.
I live on the east coast of Florida, went out on Friday and filled up my 4, 5gal gas cans just in case the hurricane came this way, Luckily we did not need it.
Although living in a major metro area may sound like steady power, we don't have it. The power compainy has not done any upgrades for years and the power is very shakey, especially in winter. A few years ago one of the power compainy techs said I should get a generator because the outages were going to get worse. One bright sunny warm spring day I bought my 6000 watt. Three days later a blizzard hit and our power was out for almost a week, this is not in the mountains but in the city. I keep reminding people, you laughed at me when I bought it, but I can watch TV, make coffee, cook my meals in my microwave all year round. During power outs at night I plug in a halogen worklight and aim it straight up so the neighborhood can see who has the last laugh.
Pam
That is funny Pam. I can just picture it now. The whole area is black and then there is a beacon of light coming from your house. I would rub it in too.
Nope I live on the east coast (yep got nailed by Charley but only after he calmed down a bit) tried talking hubby into getting a generator. He said geez woman they are like 600 bucks. I left it at that.
Always prepare...I have 2, Onan 12,000 watt set up in my shop and fed from a five hundred gallon gasoline tank . The Onan is grid tie so I disconnect from my utility and I can run the whole house and garage. I also have a 3500 watt portable I take in the race trailer and use in remote locations.
