which 460?

which 460?
I have just recently sold a '68 Galaxie with a 460 and would like to start building another 460 for my next project. Which 460 block and heads are best? What numbers should I look for and what model/year were they origonally in? I am an Aussie and not everone of your models made it over here. Thanks.

The 70 model BBF's are best from the block perspective...
They have the thick main webs and are the same block as the CJ's less the additional machining.
That being said the early 68 and 69 through 71 engines have the slightly better small chamber heads and a shorter deck height.
These engines came in the t bird in 68 and the lincoln (460)
In 69 the 429 was available in the full size line ford and merc both. the 460 was reserved for lincoln until 74 when it replaced the 429 across the board in passenger car use.

casting numbers...
1968 vintage with have C8VE on the block and heads. Block behind starter and heads at valve cover rail between # 2&3 exhaust ports.
1969 with be C9VE on block and heads also.
1970 will have the D0VE-A or D0VE-AA block with D0VE-A or C heads.
1971 will be D1VE-a or AA with D0VE-C heads and possibly D1VE heads but I have never seen them only heard rumors...
