96 Explorer ball joints
My girlfriend has a 96 XLT Explorer, 41,000 miles, city-driven only, all scheduled maintenance performed. During a safety recall, she was told the ball joints need replacing. Also told this was a fairly "common" problem with Explorers, some even going at 24,000 miles. Seems bizarre to me. Anyone out there heard of this situation. Would sure appreciate any input before I start my rant with Ford. Thanks.

I certainly don't believe it's "common". In fact I don't believe it at all. I would have to see the evidence.
My '91 has 174K and joints are still tight.
My '98 has 52 K with no problem.
Are you sure they didn't mean the radius arm bushings?
