5.4 Longevity?

Im thinking about getting an F-150 with a 5.4. I was just wondering how many miles they can go for if they are well maintained.

Mine went 104K miles without any problems. Just traded for a 2004 F-150.

it is awsome. Try running some of the shell V-POWER in yours every once in a while
this is the best fuel I have ever used.

This is the second vehicle (99 & 02) with the 5.4 in the E350 vans I drive. We ran the first to 475,000 with NO problems except an alternator and a fuel pump. The one I drive now has 354,000 on it with absolutely no problems. Looking for about another year before replacment. The van makes three runs a day to total 405 miles per day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

So are these high-mileage numbers about the average as far as the 5.4's go?? I'm looking at buying a 00 EB Expedition, and am a little wary about the 113K on it, but it sounds like these are 200K+ motors. COOL!!

I figured it was something catastrophic from one of your other posts. LS1's tend to bend rods...we blow them clean out the motor... What kind of oil have you been using?

I've only had the truck for about 1k miles now...changed it when I first got it - Mobil 5W-30 (conventional).

Somebody must have known that was coming... sounds like one of the trades to get rid of a rattle trap.
Everybody has their horror story. Mine was a Honda Accord... those cars are supposed to go forever, mine dies a 166K after having it for 4K. Traded it for my '82 and never had a major problem with the truck... it's lasted for 270K and is now in my BIL's hands.

My 5.4 runs awesome at 72K, oil changed every 3k-5K miles, with Chevron 5W30 and a Motorcraft filter.

I'm wondering if the previous owner used a heavier weight. Big with these engines.

Bought my '97 Expedition 5.4L 4x4 by special order. That was the first year of production. It was the first one in my town. The dealer didn't even have one in the showroom for me to look at. I just sold it with 107,000 miles. The engine never gave any trouble. In fact, the whole truck was pretty much trouble free.
