What's the difference between Explorer/Mountaineer
We are looking for a suv , and for the life of me, we can't see many major differences between the L-M Mountaineer and the Explorer. Is the Eddie Bauer worth the price, and does the AWD drive pose any probs in the Long run? Has anyone had any major probs with the Explorer/mounataineer
SUV's?
Are there any websites that detail any enhancements for these vehicles, like bike racks,
grille guards, and interior upgrades?
What's the difference between Explorer/Mountaineer
Basically Carl,
The Mountaineer is just a moderately supped-up Explorer. They came out in 97, and they are ONLY equipped with the 302 and All-wheel-drive. The 98-99 Mountaineer's have a different front grille and headlights. They are just a bit more expensive than the Eddie Bauer and very slightly cheaper than the Limited Explorer...
What's the difference between Explorer/Mountaineer
hey i have a 91 explorer and my mom has a mountaineer my dad had a 98 eb exp. the only difference i really noticed besides whats said was that the ride on the mountaineer was a bit softer and more oriented towards women i guess... thats the only diff. i really noticed....
What's the difference between Explorer/Mountaineer
The Mountaineer does not have a low-range transfer case. Other than that, it is the same as an Explorer, mechanically. Just doesn't have the extreme off-road capability of an Explorer.
What's the difference between Explorer/Mountaineer
The Mountaineer is available with the 4.0 SOHC and 4WD as well as the V8 and AWD.
My parents have an '00 Mountaineer Monterey with the V6 and 4WD system (Auto; 4WD High; 4WD Low settings).
The ride in the '00 Mountaineer is significantly firmer than the ride in my '00 Explorer V6 4WD. My dad has commented that he likes the ride of my Explorer (and their previous '97 Explorer) more than he does his current Mountaineer. We both have the P235/75 15" wheel size. The Mercury has the Firestone tires (from a Canadian plant as opposed to US). My Explorer came standard with Goodyear. The ride could be a result of the different tires, but the ride in the Mountaineer is so much more firm that I am inclined to think it is a suspension issue.
If you are looking at getting an EB Explorer, the Mountaineer can actually turn out to cost less than the EB with the same equipment levels. The Mountaineer Premier model is essentially the same as the Explorer Limited. From a styling standpoint, the Explorer EB and Limited come with the fender flares. Mountaineers generally are not seen with the flares.
