My 95 PSD ....... while driving home the other day suddenly began to misfire badly ..... It did'nt shut off but it chugged like a train all the way home with very little power...... I recently changed the CPS sensor about 2 months ago and Im confident its not the problem........ The check engine light came on the same time the misfire started and I retrieved the error code P0113 (intake temp high) no other codes..... When I clear the code it keeps coming back when I restart.....I have checked the filter and its still clean and no other restriction in the tubing .... This truck was running fine with no problems and no misfiring, this problem developed suddenly ......... Ive changed the fuel filter, checked the wiring to the injectors including the short harnesses under the valve pans, checked the fuel for water etc......... Its a very steady misfire like some of the injectors not working ....... It still starts quickly and will run fine for a few seconds and then begin this misfire .......Any Ideas ?
I had a similar problem w/ my '96. Went so far as to bend the contacts of the internal injector harnesses to get a better connection. After I drove it 50 miles, the "misfire" returned. I replaced the two harnesses on the driver side (where the problem was in the first place, #8 hole) and haven't had a problem since.
Mine had the front harness on the right bank fail under the valve cover, taking the gasket wiring plug with it. When I would fire up it would run on 7 cylinders for 2-3 seconds then CEL would come on, right bank would shut off (running a 4 cylinder diesel powering a 4 cylinder air compressor). I replaced the gasket and under valve cover harness to the front 2 cylinders and have been fine for going on three years. I would suggest replacing both under valve cover harnesses - my supplier only sent me one and I was in Chicago getting parts out of Cincinnati. I decided to install the one I got and replace the other if it let go.
Thanks guys .......... I do appreciate that info and have already purchased 3 of the under cover harnesses ....... I also found that 2 of the outer harness ends are slightly burnt and Im looking for somewhere that might sell just the outer connector ends with short wire that can be spliced into the main harness instead of buying the complete harness for $600.00 plus bucks.
When you go into International parts dept - ask them if they have the small, blue booklet thats called

(thats where almost all of the above info came from)
If you will send me an eMail through this site I will reply with some more links and information if you need it. Put FORD TRUCK INFORMATION as the subject and let me know what information you are looking for and what eMail address you would like it sent to. This site does not allow eMail addresses to show in the threads or in personal messages (cuts way down on spam - THANK YOU THANK YOU!!). I have a few things saved as MS Word documents that I can send out as attachments. I will have to check and see if I have anything on this.
Check your e-mail for my addy ............ You can send me info on any problem solving info relating to the 7.3 DI that you may have .....This is my first diesel truck and I've had it for 2 years now......... If it were not for this site I would have had to spend a whole lot more money on repairs and maintenance than I actually have ....... Its guys like you on this site that save me a whole lot of money with parts and repair info, and because of this I have been able to do any and all repairs to my truck by myself and believe me THAT IS A BIG BIG HELP
I also have the same problem, and I really dont want to spend 500 dollars that the dealer quoted for the ENTIRE wiring harness. Is it possible just to replace the one plug? I pulled all of the plugs and only one has one burnt pin on it. I already purchased the gasket, and the harness that goes on the inside. Any help would be great, I'm trying my hardest to get it back on the road, and money is tight! Thanks.
Nickiboy, I have way too much information to send as attachments. If you will let me know just what you need I will try to get to it and send it to you.
One of these days I need to set up a web site with the information and links I have run across. It's on the list.
