I am also replacing the original exhuast on my 89 f150 with 351 V8. The truck also has an exhaust leak. Any suggestions on the best catback system and what about shorty headers? I see some air tubes that run to the passenger manifold. Are these used with headers or can they be blocked off?
Go with the Bassani Headers and Y-pipe if your going to do it. I tried 3 different types of headers and could not get them to fit the stock Y-pipe. The Bassani's come with everything you need, quality and fit are so much better than anything else. After you get nice gaskets and another set of cheaper headers the Bassani price isn't to bad. If you go with something else you will spend so much more money at the muffler shop trying to get the cheap stuff to work you would have come out way ahead just buying the Bassani stuff also. I haven't had to touch my Bassani setup since I put it on several months ago, the BBK, Gibbson and pacesetter piles of junk needed constant attention, never would seal all the way and was a big waste of time. I had my Y-pipe modified twice for tons of money and ended up throwing tons of money away, wasting a bunch of time and throwing it all away in the end. I have some BBK headers I will sell you real cheap if you want them!
The Bassanis look really good...it's a shame that they don't make a version for 4WDs...I guess they figure that 4x4 drivers aren't that concerned with the top end.
My pickup is 4WD and the Bassani headers and Y-pipe fit fine.
Yeah, according to Proficient Performance, your truck year is OK for 4WD and the headers. For my year (2001) they explicitly state 2WD. Probably because the engine bay is so ridiculously crowded, especially with the 5.4 in there...even changing the plugs is an all-afternoon affair.
Bassani headers hands down. Just got mine yesterday (ceramic coated) and am very impressed. The gasket design is amazing. Cant wait for some clear weather to put them on.
Anybody have experience with Bassani Quiet exhaust system. I didn't see any price on their site. I am going to be getting an exhaust sysytem from someone within the week. My other options were Gibson, Which I had on my Bronco, Flowmaster, and DynoMax. Any thoughts?

Trip,
What does it mean when the header mfg. says "no A.I.R."........?
I'm also planning on a complete exhaust system replacement for my Bronco, and the Bassani system looks real good, but their info makes no mention of this "A.I.R." . I have a pure stock 94 Bronco,302, AT and would need to keep all the emissions legal
a.i.r. is the recirculation of the emissions system, I bought the headers off from trip and they did not have the connection so what i did is took off the connector of the passenger side exhaust system and welded it on the headers to connect the egr valve turning it into a smog legal system, as for the brand they are great only problem is that the collectors did not match up with the stock y pipe collectors,so i took it to a muffler shop and they cut them bolted them on the headers and added about three inches of more piping, so now they are working perfectly, but inregards of brands dont know who makes them to fit the original y pipe connectors in their original angles, think that this is something that any manufacturer will or will not match but like i said it is something that is an easy fix
I do not have the A.I.R. conection on my headers, it connects to the Y-pipe. It can easily be added like customfoam says to the headers. On my application that A.I.R. system pipe connected down by the cat. converter. When that all came out to make room for the Bassani Y-pipe the Bassani had a small pipe off the Y-pipe with some hose to re-connect that line. On the newer engines instead of running a small pipe all the way down to the cat. converter, they just made a threaded hole on the header and the A.I.R. pipe threads in there. The pipe was held on to the Y-pipe with a clamp that would never come off, it was a pain to get to and the little pipe gets stress cracks. The new way where it connects to the header is much better in my opinion. I don't know how the air pressures in the system were designed but, I would think you could run that line into the exhaust anywhere from the header down to the cat so, if you were able to pickup some inexpensive headers like Customfoam, you could add a provision for that A.I.R. line on your header or you could put an old style A.I.R. pipe or an extension on that runs down to the Y-pipe and connect it down there.
