If you can get hold a scanner, you can check the DTC's. My O/D light began flashing on Sunday and my tranny would not shift into 4th gear (OD). I took it to AAMCO on Monday. Their scanner pick-up a 4th gear problem. Had the tranny rebuilt and it runs like a champ - big bucks repair since the tranny is mostly all electronic. Get a scanner - it runs about $165 and will allow you to access the car's computer so you get an idea about what is wrong before you go in for an estimate. AutoXray sells a model that will even provide you English text for the DTC's so you don't have to count those damn blinking lights!
