OK, ford fellars, I need to know how the valve train is set up on the 5.4s. Our truck is in the shop due to a "ticking" noise from the engine.
The tech. said both valves on #7 hole have no oil flow. So how exactly is the upper end oiled? The dealership is on the phone with the mothership looking for advice.
I am wondering what the possible cause is and if this is a big $$$ fix.
There is an oil feed hole from the block through the head gasket to the head. Oil then flows through the head to the cams and followers. this also feeds the chain tensioner to keep the chain tight.
Well we heard from ford, and the verdict is new heads. The tech. said that each head has 75 pounds of oil pressure at the front of the heads but only 38 pounds at the back of the left side and 42 at the back of the right side.
The dealership also said that the heads are basically disposable, that there really is no way to rebuild them, is this correct?
The buggers want 2400.00 to replace the heads. 1500 of that is parts and the rest labor. Any thoughts on what caused this problem?
Well the sorry son of a gun dealer pushed my truck outside for 6 days with nothing covering the heads, in wind and rain, mind you. They lied to me about having it covered up they lied to me about when I could pick it up. I raised three kinds of cain with them got a statement from the sevice manager stating that they would be responsible for any engine problems for the next 100,000 miles.
I have a meeting with the owner tommorow, these guys are pure and simple idiots. I took lots of pictures of the truck in its current state. Also have one of the sevice puke closing the hood, that one really got them mad. If I have any problems with this waste of metal to court we go.
