Need Dipstick
i can't find a dipstick for my truck. it's a 4.9L and the dipstick goes in trough the block, not the oil pan. i believe that the block is from '83. i have searched junkyards, catalogs and online. where can i find one?

Not sure, but you could use any dipstick that fits down the tube. Do an oil change and fill with one quart less than specified amount of oil. Run it, shut down and let it drain down, then dip the stick. See where it comes to and mark that as the bottom of the "safe" zone. If the stick goes much more than an inch past that, I would trim it so it doesn't hit any moving parts. Then add last quart, let it drain down, dip and mark the upper end of the "safe" zone.
