Dirty Engine

I have an 02 F-250 w/ 7.3PSD I recently changed the fuel filter and now I noticed a thick black residue on the air pipes right behind the fuel filter. There is no sign of fuel leakage around the filter but I didn't notice this build up before. I guess I could have missed it before but now I am concered this is a sign of another problem. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Your problem is not the fuel filter. The crankcase ventilation system vents into the intake blowing some oil into the intercooler and intake. This causes the oily black residue you have on your intake pipes. Do a search for crankcase vent mod and you will find info on how to vent the crankcase into the atmosphere. By the way welcome to FTE.

Contact Heatstroked here on this site. He makes an awsome CV bypass kit with instructions too. Great Mod cheap and definetly beneficial.
