I did a search on a good way to mount a toolbox in the back of a truck and found some about mounting a metal one. I have a plastic one that I got cheap and I'd like to use it but how can I mount this thing without it ripping the bottom out of it? Any ideas out there? I'm thinking to use a strip of metal inside, maybe 3/4 the length of it, front and back and drilling holes through that, the box itself and then the truck box. Then bolt them all together.
How big of a box is it, and how thick is the material? If it's thin use 1/4" bolts and fender washers. If it's thick you can get away with smaller bolts and washers.
Cudighi,
I have seen "perches" made from 8" C-Purlin installed inside the truck bed to hold up the toolbox. They took the purlin, flanges down, so that the smooth side was up, then welded some base angle gussets (braces) to it on a 45 degree angle to the truck's bed. The base angle was then bolted to the front of the bed so that the purlin would carry the weight of the box.

(not much of a sketch) but, it's a side view of the C-purlin and how the base angle is welded so that it fits on a 45 degree angle and is bolted to the front part of the bed.
Hope this helps.
I got a plastic one and I attached it to the bed with the cargo tie down that goes in the 6 holes on the top rail of the bed. I used the two that are closest to the cab since those are the only two that are under the tool box and I haven't had a problem yet, plus it's easy to remove when needed.
