The battery on the 93 F-150 is losing voltage. I put a meter on it and while the truck is running can see the voltage slowly drop from about 12 and slowly drop to 10 or below. Thought it was the alternator and had it checked but it checked out ok. If the alt. is working fine and there is no visible draw then how can I lose voltage with the truck running? I would think the alt. would keep charging it. I've checked about everything I can think of. Do these trucks have an external voltage regulator?
I'd say get a wiring diagram and make sure the alt. is wired correctly, sounds like it's not charging the battery, and the ignition is sucking the juice from the battery.
If the alternator is charging, you should be getting 13.5+ volts back to the battery with the engine running.. Did you check the alternator on or off the vehicle? My 89 alt. has an internal regulator and I would think yours would be the same.
the alternator was checked off the vehicle and checked out ok according to the guy at NAPA. I can check the wiring again but it hasn't changed and everything worked fine for a couple years. It has just now strted acting up.
My situation was that the alt. checked good out ot the truck and when installed, failed to charge, but mine was being installed in a 55 F-100. In the wiring schematic it showed one of the alt. wires connecting to the ingnition switch through the instrument cluster (terminal 13 and 14). Since I wasn't using the 1989 instrument cluster this connection was "open". I jumped out the two terminals and it started charging, so I would suspect you may have an open circuit/broken wire somewhere. Sorry I can't offer more help/
Check the simple stuff. Did you get the battery tested to make sure IT holds a charge. If the battery cells are bad or empty then no matter how much juice you throw at it it won't show full charge or maintain it!
