Where is the starter located?
I have a 1989 Ford Econoline E-150 and I'm about to work on it for the first time. I need to replace the starter and I'm wondering if anyone can just tell me if it's accessible from the cowling inside or if I am going to have to get under the van? I know this sounds like a dumb question but I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!

Are you sure it's the starter ? Have you checked the starter switch already ? If it's the starter and it's a V8 you get it from underneath. Make sure you yank the cables off the battery first.

I'm assuming that has a shunt type starter, the one with the hump on top. You should have it tested at the parts store anyway before you buy another one.
I've seen where if those type don't get enough current to them, they won't pull down the shunt and will just spin.
