I'm supposed to sign papers today on an '04 f250crew 4x4 lariat with the short bed, 5.4l engine and 3.73 gears. I was looking at the brocure last night and it claims that the truck can only pull a loaded trailer weight of 6900 pounds???? My 97 f-150 pulls 7700? What gives? My camper is a 30 foot cherokee which I took to the truck scale and weight was 9000 lbs. I know the gears change the tow capacity, but according to research, I'll need a semi to pull the camper.....Does anybody have a 250 setup like me and pull a heavy camper? I don't know what to do? I'm ready to cancel the transaction and keep my 150!
Please respond

Ps, all salesman assured me there would be no problem towing the camper(9000lbs) saying the truck can tow 12,500? but the brochure has it printed in black and white" can tow 6900lb loaaded trailer"
There are several threads here about this very subject. The fact is that you have too little engine for all that weight. The main problem is that by the time you add a crew cab and 4x4 to an F-250, the empty truck weighs too much all by itself, even before you add gas and passengers. If you actually need a cc and 4x4, get the F-350 with a V-10 or diesel.
I agree, the truck is heavy, the engine small, the axle ratio is high and the trailer is too heavy. If you can't afford the diesel and dont want the bad gas mileage of the V10, then at least get the 4.10 ratio with your 5.4 engine and plan on doing some downshifting, or look into trading the trailer in on a lighter one.
