I have a new 2004 F150 Lariat - fully loaded. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Never will I buy another truck - this is my 2nd Lariat. BUT, with this new one I notice that it takes up to 30 minutes for my cold truck thermometer to actually register the actual outside temperature. I start it up on an 86 degree day and the thermometer reads 56 degrees. I have to drive for at least 30 minutes before it reads even close to actual outside temp. All the while this is going on my air conditioning is set at 60 degrees, high fan and is blowing maybe 70 to 72 degrees air??? When the thermometer finally agrees with the actual outside temperature my air conditioning begins to work but I can never take it off 60 degrees - not even for my cold blooded wife. Is this a thermometer link problem? Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon? Help!!
I've only owned my Larait for 3 weeks, but the only thing I've seen is 89 degrees when it was only 72 outside. The truck was sitting in the sun out of the wind, but once it was moving it only took about 5 minutes for the temp in the "Message Center to read right. I'm assuming we are taking about what the message center is telling you?? The digital temp on the automatic heat/AC control has nothing to do with the outside reading on the Message Center..
Man, you got me confused here.. How do you know the vent are blowing 70-72??...and then it get's colder??
I had the same problem with my FX4. They found the ambient air temp probe bad. They replaced it and I get an accurate reading with two to three minutes after driving. My A/C is working great too.
Yes, the temperature in the message center is the one that does not read properly. That is the read out that takes up to 30 minutes to equalize itself with the actual outdoor temp which is what it is supposed to be telling me. My 70 to 72 degrees is really just a guess. But with my set point for the AC at 60 degrees I can tell you they are not blowing anywhere near that. I also have a 1998 Lariat and if I set that one on 60 degreees it will freeze your pipes. I simply cannot drive the '98 at 60 degrees. Of course, it does not have the ambient air temp read out.
I like that thought - the ambient air temp probe. I just had no idea even what to suggest to the dealer. They keep wanting to recharge the AC but that cannot be the problem.
GMAC49,
...Stop at the auto parts and pick up a thermometer. The one that's about an inch in diameter with a metal probe, about 5.5 inches long, sticking out the back.(Mine is made by "Cooper" in the usa) Pull the cover off and stick it in the air vent to check the outlet temp.I thought my air wasn't working til I checked the temp.It got down to 40 degrees.I guess I was having a hot flash or something. I just couldn't FEEL the cold air!
...If you take it to the dealer, try to have as much hard information you can get.
Good luck !
