I was lookeng at an old Hot Rod article on a 390 build. They used a stock rocker and said that only with cams approaching 600 lift was it recomended to go with something better. Everyone else I've listened to says ditch the stock ones. I won't be using a cam that high. Whats the consensus on this? I've seen anywhrer from the Comp Cams at $259 to Ersons at +$600 for rollers. I'd like a roller rocker but how far does one need go on a mild street build. I'm aiming for about 9.5:1 cr, performer intake, holley 650, headers, and have not made my cam choice yet.
They were exactly right. The stock setup is good for up to .6" lift with flat tappet cams. ANY more and it WILL break. I'd set the arbitrary limit at .575".
I just figured the spring pressure was what killed them I think they handle like what 280 lbs or something....I think if your shafts were strong enough to handle 320lbs you would be fine running up to .600"
Ok. Are there any aftermarket rockers that make sense that are reasonable? I've seen some that are pretty steep. Also Rusty you specified a flat tappet. Would'nt be the same for hydraulic? Also if I do any work on the heads are there any spots specific to a C8AE-8 head that I should be aware of?
For grins and giggle's ya might want to check with DSC Motorsports and find out how much Dennis wants for a set of heavy duty rocker Shaft's with ajustable rockers, case in point? if you might want to upfrade your cam later? Just my 2 Cents
