Have 93 F350 w/ 460 auto. Put new starter in, still not engaging with flywheel. Flywheel teeth look to be in great shape with little wear and no play or looseness in flywheel. The starter is one of the small ones with the solenoid
attached. Could it be the relay switch or a battery losing amps.
Have you tried setting it up on the bench to see if the drive gear is kicking out far enough? Also, if it's one of the adjustable angle units, make sure you didn't get it in the wrong set of holes. Usually you can't, but some hole patterns will allow it.
You said you could hear it grinding. Is the drive gear grinding on the outside edge of the tooth or on the front? In other words, is the drive gear extending all the way out but not meshing with the flywheel teeth, or is the drive gear hitting the front of the flywheel and not engaging at all?
always thought fords had solenoid on fenderwell or close not on unit unless they were changed at least allmine did but never had anything that new are you sure they gave you right one
