what is the format of your addy book? Is it a previous version of OE? you can search for the file and check it's properties. Usually a file will lock if it's being accessed by another program, and/or that program closed unexpectedly, such as crashing etc. Make sure the file is not being used by any other progs.
Have you done all of the current Microsoft Critical Updates yet. I was locked out of OE until I did the updates. It wouldn't let me send, receive or do much of anything.
I had the same problem in transferring an address book from a windows 98 computer to a windows XP computer. Both outlook express systems were OE6. However, I could not transfer the old OE6 web address books to the new OE6 because the older version had been updated from OE5.0 to 5.5 to 6.0, and the new computer did not recognize the format of the old address book. I had to start over. There were lots of questions raised about the same problem on the microsoft website, and some provided solutions, but they didn't seem to work for me.
Just email it to your self, with another acct. Open a new emile, using a split screen, also open contacts...just drag and drop contacts to body of message, and poof...hit send
then drop it in contacts folder on 2K box....your done.
Outlook uses .pst files found in Documents and Settings user name etc., lots of time I just replace with old one (.pst) also works for user settings.
Going back to play Doom3 now!!!!!

Slammer only problem there is that outlook 2k is different from outlook express. OE uses .dbx files and outlook 2k uses .pst files. The two formats aren't compatible. Only way to interchange the data is to export from one prog to a comma delimited file, and then import to the other prog. This is already off topic. Getting back to the original question, exporting to a text file should allow you to import your contacts, Dennis.

I know, thats why I said, "Just email it to your self, with another acct.
Open a new email, using a split screen, also open contacts...select all your contacts, just drag and drop contacts to body of message, and poof...hit send
Then open Laptop running Win2k, logon to ISP, open OE..."YOU GOT MAIL"
open contacts, and dropem in.
