Is there a manufacturer that makes superchargers for the truck 5.0? All the ones I come across seem to be for the Stang. I am thinking about charging my 88 5.0. Anyone have a supercharged 5.0? Thanks!
I've seen them out there but why would you want to super charge a Bronco ? Are you going to race it ? Do a few other mods like exhaust, heads, intake ignition etc... for less than half the cost of the charger. If you DO charge it, I hope that your 302 is new or rebuilt because I don't think that it could handle the raw power that it will deliver. Also, your tranny may not be able to handle it either. I have seen the Mustang with a charger start to fail because of a weak enging and or tranny.
Kenne Bell would be my only suggestion in regards to a truck sc. but like fcarruth said your engine/tranny better be in decent condition otherwise it wont last long.
Well, I just love the feel of a supercharger. My engine is bran ing new, my tranny has about 93,000 on it. If that goes out than it is more of an excuse to get a stronger one. I have a 3 inch single flowmaster setup on my truck already. That itself made a huhe difference in power. Also, yes I don like to race my truck from stop lights here and there, also it would give me some more power off the road. I am just kind of throwing up the idea right now but down the road I can see it happening.
If you want to do it go with Kenne Bell. I have heard nothing but good things about them. I have been told vortech makes a good supercharger as well. From what I have been told (Guy has been supercharging cars since the 70's) the kenne bell charger is better than the vortech because it builds power immmediately off of idle and on up. A vortech apparently takes a while to build boost like a turbo, which is great for racing, but not good for trucks that like low RPM grunt.
hey i looked into the same thing as u, i first whent to kenebell and they told me they didnt make any s/c for a 88 351w just newer ones i forget which year. then i looked into vortech and i found this http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...9650truck.html the 302 u will get a 75hp gain and 80 for 351 with s/c attened to fit on a stock engine setup. i would love to get one but there has got to be a cheaper way to gain 75-80 hp.like heads and cams bore it out, make a stroker engine. good luck
I ran a Vortech s/c on a 95 Bronco with a stroked 351 and I would have to reccomend going with a Kenne Bell or other twin screw style charger if you really want to use a blower. As far as the years that the Kenne Bell chargers support, you may need to step up to MAS if you deceide to go with one of their units. The Vortech or any centrifical charger for that matter, will feel like running two air conditioners at once on a stock engine kinda feel at low rpm and part throttle response. I would have to agree with Kemical that if your only looking to pick up 50-75 HP that is easily attainable without the use of forced induction.

I'm pondering the same steps. I have a 94 351W and am either going to upgrade the engine or put the Kenne Bell on. KB has a highly regarded kit for Speed Density.
I question the assertion here that power for dollars can be had with bolt-ons. I've been pricing things out, and if I bought heads, cam and intake I'd also need to have the computer upgraded and the probably uprade the ignition coil to get all the pop out of the bolt ons. The tab for that could easily approach the $3500 for the Kenne Bell super charger and only get me 50-75 HP.
On the other hand, the KB kit comes with everything and has a dyno proven boost of ~100HP.
Am I wrong here? Seems the KB supercharger is the way to get the most bang for the buck and the easiest to install and tune.
hey Kemicalburns wheres the best place to buy some of those AFR heads some realy wild ones, summit? are these heads better than edelbrock. kellyjcook wow 100hp sweet, wonder how much boost that is at
Cobra, Summit carries the AFR heads. AFR outflows Edelbrock by a considerable amount, as does Trick Flow. I run the Trick Flow on my 393 and like them. I have also ran the on the 408 s/c motor. I dont think you would go wrong with the AFR or Trick Flow. You should look at the o-ringed heads if you plan on forced induction or Nitrous.
kellyJcook. you can add heads, cam and intake and still run your speed density. the only real time you gotta think about converting is when you increase displacement. Or get yourself a Tweecer to alter the speed density system. just when you choose a cam be sure to keep the lobe seperation at 114* or higher
You can also re program or replace your chip and gain HP as well. Some of the reprograming machines out there will give you up to 40% more hp. That right there alone can give you 50 hp, then better heads, cam, exhaust, and possibly intake can give you around 40-50 more. You are already higher than a SC and also cheaper.
