Question loose speedo cable...HeLp!

1991 Ranger 3.0L (automatic)

I believe its the speedo cable that goes into the tail-end of the tranny that is loose to the point that it came right out. I pushed it back into the hole but it is really looooose! And it's becoming a source of fluid leakage. Plus the cruise control works off and on and then the trans will slip in and out of OverDrive. Would the loose speedo cable cause the overdrive to go in and out?

All this happened last week when i had the trans fluid changed. Nothing but problems ever since. Should've kept the varnish colored fluid and left well enough alone.

Update:

It WAS the speedo sensor. Had it replaced at the trans shop and everything works 100%
