timing belt change
kotzy,
that is true, however it also depends on who you talk to. some say 60k others say 100k, but there is no telling when they will go. my 91 had the original timing belt up until last december. the belt had 240,000 miles on it (it didn't break). my uncle's 99 broke at 70k miles. i'll stick with 60k and not 240k this time just for peace of mind.
just my 2 cents
The one I changed had 140,000 on it, looking it over I believe it may have gone another50,000. The reason we changed it was we had several cold mornings and I'm sure you remember the nylon bias tires that bumped on a cold morning, well this darn belt did that you could feel the vibration on the cover. You also could hear it, the minute it got some heat it was quiet. I had charge of a fleet before I retired, we had a lot of Chrysler cars and vans once the change to the new tooth design took place the
life got real good. This is not to say something wouldn't get into a cover and we would
have one fail. You seem like a real knowledgeable guy who seems to have been around this stuff a while.
By the way the crank sensor bracket on the 93 let me move the guide washer out 1/4
of an inch, no way was I getting that belt out of there with it in place.
